Addiction Recovery
for High-Functioning Professionals

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

You’ve kept it together.
That’s exactly the problem.

From the outside, everything looks fine. You show up. You perform. You meet deadlines, keep relationships intact, and manage your responsibilities better than most people around you. But somewhere along the way, a coping pattern — alcohol, work, or something else — became load-bearing. It’s not that your life is falling apart. It’s that it’s being held up by something that’s quietly costing you more than it’s giving back.

Being high-functioning doesn’t mean the problem isn’t real. Many high-functioning professionals meet the clinical criteria for a substance use disorder or alcoholism long before it becomes visible to anyone around them — because looking fine has always been part of how they cope.

What This Work Addresses

This is individualized clinical treatment for adults navigating:

    •    Alcohol use disorder or alcoholism, including high-functioning presentations that don’t match the stereotype

    •    Substance use disorder involving prescription medication, stimulants, or other substances

    •    Codependency and enabling patterns in relationships affected by addiction

    •    Dual diagnosis — addiction alongside anxiety, depression, PTSD, or complex trauma

    •    Relapse after previous treatment, sobriety, or 12-step involvement

    •    Using work, achievement, or control as a parallel coping/addictive pattern

    •    Shame, secrecy, and the fear of being “found out”

My Approach

Most addiction treatment for high-functioning adults focuses on behavior — cutting back, tracking use, managing triggers. Those tools matter, but they rarely hold long-term if the underlying trauma driving the addiction goes unaddressed.

Early in my career, I worked in outpatient and intensive outpatient addiction treatment, where I saw firsthand how consistently early relational trauma underlies substance use disorder — even, and often especially, in people who look like they have it all handled. That experience shaped how I practice now: attachment-informed, trauma-focused, and centered on treating the root cause, not just the presenting behavior.

I use EMDR where it’s clinically indicated, to process the underlying memories and beliefs that keep a person locked into cycles of shame, relapse, and self-sabotage. This is often where lasting recovery actually happens — not in willpower alone, but in resolving what the addiction was protecting you from in the first place.

Why Work With Me

I hold an Advanced Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ACADC) credential in addition to my clinical license, and I’ve spent over 20 years treating adults with complex trauma and addiction. I understand the specific pressure of being the capable one — the one who isn’t supposed to need treatment — and this work doesn’t require you to blow up your career or reputation to get well.

This is individual outpatient therapy, not a program or group model. It’s built around your clinical history, your pace, and the specific trauma driving your addiction — not a one-size-fits-all recovery framework.

I offer this work in-person in Coeur d’Alene and via telehealth throughout Idaho and California

If a substance use disorder or alcoholism you’ve kept quiet is quietly costing you more than it’s giving back, I’d like to help you treat it — and understand it.
