Angela Holland, LMFT, ACADC

Trauma Therapist in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Serving clients in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Sandpoint, and throughout North Idaho. Telehealth available statewide in Idaho and California.

I’m Angela Holland, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. I work with individual adults who are ready to go beyond managing their symptoms — people who want to understand the deeper roots of their pain and do the honest work of changing it.

My clients often come in feeling stuck. They’ve tried things. They’ve read the books, done the work, maybe seen other therapists. And yet something persists — a pattern they can’t break, a heaviness they can’t shake, a sense that they’re living a smaller version of themselves than they know is possible. That’s the work I’m built for.

My Approach

My clinical approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed, and somatically oriented. That means I pay attention to three interconnected layers of a person’s experience: the relational history that shaped your nervous system, the memories and beliefs stored in your body, and the patterns driving your behavior today.

I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a primary treatment modality. EMDR is one of the most rigorously researched trauma therapies available, and in my experience it reaches places that talk therapy alone cannot — processing the memories and subconscious beliefs that keep people locked in cycles of shame, self-sabotage, and emotional dysregulation.

Over my career I have developed an integrated somatic clinical model that addresses not just the story of what happened, but how that story lives in the body and continues to organize a person’s experience. This approach is particularly effective for adults navigating complex trauma, early relational wounds, and addiction — areas where conventional therapy often falls short.

My Background

I completed my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Loma Linda University in 2004. Early in my career I worked in outpatient and intensive outpatient addiction treatment, where I developed a deep respect for the courage required to face pain directly — and a clear-eyed understanding of how profoundly early relational trauma underlies substance use.

In 2015 I founded Restart Counseling PLLC in my hometown of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with the intention of offering clinical care at the highest level — a space where people feel safe to do the kind of deep, substantive work that actually changes something.

Who I Work With

I see individual adults in person at my office in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and via telehealth throughout Idaho and California. I work with people navigating:

  • Complex and developmental trauma
  • Attachment wounds and relational patterns
  • PTSD and trauma responses
  • Shame and deeply held negative self-beliefs
  • Anxiety and emotional dysregulation
  • Addiction and substance use recovery
  • Grief and significant life transitions
  • Spiritual injury or crisis of faith

I do not currently have openings for couples or family therapy. My practice is focused exclusively on individual adult work.

My Philosophy

I believe therapy should be a process of becoming more fully yourself — not just learning to cope better. I don’t help you fix a problem. I help you understand where it came from, how it has shaped your life, and how to rewrite the internal story that has been running the show.

The people I work with are not broken. They are intelligent, self-aware adults who have been carrying something heavy for a long time. My job is to help them set it down — not by bypassing the pain, but by moving through it with skill, care, and genuine clinical depth.

If what you’ve read here feels like the right fit, I’d love to hear from you.
